Overview

Modern day hospital is a complex matrix organization with amalgam of social architecture and latest technology. It is important to strike a balance between internal operations and external connections with emphasis on planning, development, efficient operation and cost containment. There is a growing demand of qualified hospital administrators/ managers in the health care sector to improve the quality and patient safety. The Department of Hospital Administration was established on 04 April 2019.

Department is under process for recognition by MCI to start MD (Hospital Administration) from the academic session 2020 - 2022 with permission to take 05 (five) students per year. Thus, MGUMST becomes pioneer institute to start MD (Hospital Administration) in Rajasthan. It is envisaged to evolve the Department into a centre of excellence for teaching, training and research in the field of Hospital Administration and Management.

Aim & Objectives

To prepare the candidate to assume the responsibility of a hospital executive in health sector and to subsequently function at higher levels in the hierarchy with requisite experience.

To develop the skills and enhance the knowledge base to function as hospital manager at various levels in the hospitals.

To provide training in key issues of hospitals like hospital planning / designing, Quality and safety in patient care, Accreditation of hospitals and resource management.



Core competencies

The department is actively involved and strongly committed to capacity building and human resources development in hospital administration at national and international stages. The post graduate degree MD HA program is started to develop and enhance problem solving and decision making abilities of students when working in healthcare organizations, awareness of socio - economic environment of hospitals, analysis and logical data interpretation, data processing skills, marketing, operations, quality and strategic management skills. The curriculum will help students learn the best practices in hospitals in following area:

  • Hospital planning and designing.
  • Quality in patient care.
  • Safety in patient care.
  • HR management.
  • Infection control in Hospital practices.
  • Communication skills.
  • Hospital related drills.
  • Accreditation of Hospital.
  • Emergency code in Hospital.
  • Application of Work Study techniques in Hospital.
  • Research activities in the field of healthcare management.

Contribution to the institute

All faculty members of the department are assigned independent charges of hospital administration in various patient care centres of the University. The Department periodically organizes training programs for Residents/Nursing staff on various aspects of hospital administration.

The Department is distinctively involved with MGCH

  • Contribution in day to day functioning of MGCH.
  • Management of various centres and departments as per instructions.
  • Progressing with Accreditation programme in MGCH
  • Implementation of various programmes in MGCH like infection control programme, patient safety programme, etc.
  • Human Resource Management by rationalization of manpower
  • Rationalization of user charges.
  • Rationalization of space allocation.
  • Contribution to various committees as Chairman/ Member.
  • Residents / Nursing Staff Training

Location and infrastructure

Latest IT facilities are provided to all faculty and residents to facilitate teaching and learning. Furthermore, Lecture theatres, Central IT and Computer facility and Center for Medical Education and Technology are also included in the infrastructure facilities.

  • Teaching programmes are well coordinated
  • Thesis work is monitored regularly

Workshop & Conference

International Conference on Healthcare Waste Management, Antimicrobial Resistance Climate Change 30th November – 1st December 2019. The department has organized ISHWMCON 2019 (INDIAN SOCIETY OF HOSPITAL WASTE MANAGEMENT).
